SSH key setup and installation
Separate saving a public key to your account from installing it in a guest.
Common symptoms
SSH key saved but login fails, publickey, key installation failed, authorized_keys, lost private key, revoke key
What to check
- Save the public key in SSH Keys and keep its matching private key on your own device. If you generate a key through the panel, download the private key locally and store it safely.
- For a new server, select the intended public key when ordering. For an existing server, use its explicit installation action on a running, supported Linux guest; review the target and complete identity verification.
- Check the installation result, then test a new SSH session before closing existing access. If installation could not be confirmed, read the displayed reason and retry only as instructed. To revoke a key, review guest authorized_keys while keeping another login method.
Common questions
Why does a saved account key not work on my existing server?
Saving a key does not install it on existing servers. The installation action needs a running supported Linux guest and a working guest agent, and its result must be checked. A failed result can mean installation could not be confirmed.
Does deleting a key from my account revoke server access?
No. A key already installed in the guest can remain in authorized_keys. Remove the intended public key inside the guest after confirming another working login method; keep the current session open while testing.

Before contacting support
Include the server name, public key fingerprint, installation time and sanitized result or SSH error. Never attach the private key, password or verification codes.
Keep secrets out of support requests · Remove passwords, private keys, access tokens, TOTP codes, backup codes and full payment details from screenshots and logs. Share the server or order name, time with timezone and exact sanitized error.
